Today is the 5th Friday the 13th for this year. Yikes. Never realized it until someone mentioned it to me this morning. I wonder if I should attribute my bad year to that. Nah, never really believed in that stuff. But then again, you never know...

I got a haircut last night. I usually go to the same stylist since they have a frequency card and I'm a sucker for those thing.  The lady styled it for me, too, and didn't charge me for it. I gave her a nice tip.  I received some compliments on it today from co-workers. Made me feel good.

I've lost 5 pounds since the breakup. That has made me feel good, too. I am determined to lose more so that I can wear some of my nice clothes that I had outgrown. I can't believe that I actually have more than 1 nice outfit that I have never worn yet. I plan on wearing these nice clothes more often once I can fit into them.  Also, I have started to use my perfumes, too.  I used to save them for special occasions. But, whatever for? I will be more mindful to treat myself better and not wait for these special occasions.

Now that I have more free time, I have been trying to devote that time to heal. I am thankful that I have good friends around me.  Spending time with people I love and who love me does wonders for the soul.

    Shutter Island

Just finished reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. It was fantasic. I am such a fan of Dennis Lehane's books. I tell everybody who wants to discover a new author about him.  My boss was the only one who listened so far, and he really got into it.  We were in our own private little book club.  We read the books concurrently. Him via purchasing on Amazon, and me via the public library. *haha*

Just in case anybody else wants to read his novels, here they are:

A Drink Before the War (Detective novel featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Book 1 of 5)

Darkness Take My Hand (Detective novel featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Book 2 of 5)

Sacred (Detective novel featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Book 3 of 5)

Gone Baby Gone (Detective novel featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Book 4 of 5)

Prayers for Rain (Detective novel featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, Book 5 of 5)

    Mystic River

    Shutter Island

The Given Day (I haven't read this yet)

Coronado Stories (Short stories - I haven't read these yet)

They have made movies out of Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River. Next month, Leonardo Dicapprio will be starring in Shutter Island. I hope that the movie does justice to the book.

What's next on my reading plate? Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I'm not kidding.

Well, the ChocoPie I had left in LA for the two months I was in Detroit hasn't gone bad. Yay! I was concerned that they would have gotten stale. Luckily no. They are still so yummmy... *drool*

Below is a picture of the autographed Starter menu from Michael Symon's Roast. I tried to meet the Iron Chef, but he was dining w/ a bunch of other chefs that night. Oh well. At least I was able to procure a signed menu. Oh, here is a pic of the Iron Chef with his pork tattoo. That pic was found on google.

  • Tired and delirious

It is almost 5am in the morning. I am taking a break from work to write this post. I have been in the office for almost 24 hours now. I got in yesterday at 8:30am. This project is so freaking big. We are trying to deliver our preliminary numbers by 8am.

My coworkers and I have been eating junk food to stay awake. They have also been drinking coffee, but I have not. I have been drinking loads of water though. I keep having to go to the bathroom because of it.

My brain is mush at this point in time. I am helping with tying the numbers, but I can't work as fast as I am used to because I am just so tired. Sometimes we will say something funny and then all laugh like crazy people. We are so sleep deprived we have become delirious.

I heard today that there were some more lay-offs in my firm. Three people that I know from my office were cut. I was sorry to hear the news. They are good people.

BTW, for those of you who read my last post: I bought the watch! It was delivered last week to RD's house, but I have not been able to pick it up yet because of work. I had to stay the weekend in Detroit for my job. We worked over 13.5 hour days on both Saturday and Sunday. Crazy fun.

Addendum: I finally left the office at 6 am and was in bed by 7, when normal people usually start waking up.
